"Why am I even fracking here?" Kala muttered to herself as she landed her freighter on Dantooine. She hadn't been here in a long time, memories of her being dragged here as part of her probation. She had been looking at a very long prison term for smuggling spice and various illegal items. She had tried to smooth talk her way out of it but frack the damn Jedi that didn't seem to want to work with her like others could. He had her arrested and her ship impounded and she had ended up in a brig. The next thing she knew the magistrate told her she had two options, go to the Dantooine Enclave for Jedi training or spend a good nine to ten years in prison. Gee, what idiot would say, give me prison. So of course, Kala had chosen the alternative, Jedi training.

Jedi training never really took to the smuggler, she was like a stubborn Ronto. Of course, the Jedi tried to be kind and said, this isn't a punishment. Kriffing hell it was a punishment. Course she tried to learn the Jedi way, but without much success. She sighed as she got off her freighter and tried to call upon the Force and tried to push something just for shits and giggles but all that happened was a light tremble the small stone she tried to budge...well she felt something...the stone seemed to tremble ever so lightly but that was it. Yep, I am a wing clipped mynock. She had no skill towards that obvious Jedi skill. She might as well be a fracking null. Ehh, no biggy she wasn't here to beg a return to the Jedi. Nope, she was here hoping that maybe the Jedi might offer her a job. She was a smuggler after all and she had a really bad string of luck lately. A Hutt had tried to confiscate her ship, hell no. No one was going to confiscate Shadow Dancer.

She managed to narrowly escape that fate by....she cringed at the thought. Damn Hutts had only one weakness, they loved dancing and well worming her way into a lustful Hutt's heart... Kala told the Hutt she would be his dancing girl. He hadn't counted on her putting poison in his meal bowl. He died a horrible death and Kala managed to get away debt free with a slightly soiled reputation. Kala felt kind of guilty over that.  Kala didn't like killing sentients but it wasn't as if a Hutt was the most honorable of creatures. Of course, there was always the risk that the Hutts would come after her yet again. Yet, killing a Hutt lent a lot of street cred. Hutts tended to fear death though and if one could kill just one Hutt there was always the risk that Kala could kill another.

Meanwhile, Kala whistled a bit of a Correlian drinking tune as she stood outside of her ship. She took out a flask and took a draught from it.  She doubted the Jedi would welcome the rogue smuggler. She had time to kill and very few credits to her name.

Finally, a good day, or at least a day with a pleasant weather. Since the day the Jedi apprentice arrived to Dantooine the sky had been mostly dark and rain had visited the academy more than what he would have liked.

Supposedly, a Jedi should not be worried about such trivial things like rain, sun or how beautiful was the day outside the walls of their studying sanctuary, but Kale didn´t enjoy being locked between four walls all day, he was used to wake up early to work out, run, stretch, climb some trees and do some physical activity to blow some steam. He assumed that the masters didn´t like his habit, but he entered the temple when he was sixteen years old and he had worked out every morning almost since the day he was able to walk and play on his own, so he was not going to stop doing that just because the masters said that wasn´t the best way to burn adrenaline… Honesty, meditation didn´t seem to work quite as well as a good long run under the sun.

He also used that time and activity to train his force skills, he was blindfolded and used the trees and environment to run, hang from the branches and flip around like a monkey, using the force to connect with the nature around him… Being aware of his surroundings… He might not be good at meditation and all those mystical skills the Jedi were so proficient at but all his life he had managed to move perfectly across Corellia´s streets and buildings, jumping and running to get away from people chasing him, mostly officers who wanted to put him into an orphanage.

He didn´t know exactly how long he had been doing that, but a time came when he left the nature behind to get into a more humanized environment, straight to Dantooine´s docking bays…

Once he felt how his feet touched metal rather than dirt, he decided that it was enough exercise for that morning. As soon as he took the blindfold off and he stopped letting the force flow through his body, the tiredness and all the exercise he had done hit him. He had been using the force to keep himself going and good, but he wasn´t going to use it to make himself not be tired, that was a natural process, to let the body rest naturally, so he just dried his forehead´s sweat with his arm and breathed heavily as he looked around.

Not a lot of ships there apart from the ones used to transport initiates and a few Jedi´s personal starfighters. But something took his attention. There was a ship there he had never seen before, and it didn´t really seem like one the Jedi would use for anything… In fact, he recognized it as Corellian, and it obviously hit his curiosity as what would a ship like that be doing there.

As he approached he saw a woman resting next to it, he was able to clearly see a lightsaber in her belt… Would she be an unconventional Jedi? But as soon as he didn´t really feel a strong force signature from her threw that idea away. She was whistling a Corellian drinking song while she drank so it was clear that girl was from his homeworld so he basically assumed what she was drinking would be Corellian as well, he talked casually “Is that Corellian? Would you pass it for a sip? Long time since I had a good one.”

“Is that Corellian? Would you pass it for a sip? Long time since I had a good one.”

Kala looked at the kid. He was dressed in what looked like Jedi initiate clothes and she suddenly laughed. "Frack, now I've seen everything some Jedi kid wants a drink." She grinned. "Why should I give you a drink? You'll only get in trouble with your masters, little Jedi...."

She took another deep swig from her flask and looked thoughtful. "Tell you what...you want a sip, it's gonna cost you. Five credits a swig."

Jedi didn't normally carry credits on them and she figured that was one way to get rid of the kid. She folded up her arms and grinned at the kid. "I would advise you to head on your way, kid. I am looking for a "real Jedi" or one of those Peacekeeper blokes. I need a job and I am hard up for anything that at least pays something."

Well Kale had to agree with her on that one, a Jedi wanting a drink wasn´t something you see everyday basis. And then she asked why, the apprentice raised an eyebrow; well she really had that smuggler look and clothing… Even the attitude showed what kind of person she was, so no surprises there, she wanted something in return, but he decided to test a little “Well because I haven´t had any in a good amount of time and I am nostalgic, reminds me of home.”

He then couldn’t help but chuckle… Pay for a drink, kind of made sense considering what he had thought about her in the first place, which now he was sure was correct to assume.

What caught his attention then was her next phrase… Looking for a job huh? Well the Jedi didn´t really have credits to share or to spend on smugglers, and he couldn’t help about anything the Jedi would need from her. Him, on the other had, did. So he just smirked and used the force to take the drink from her hands and took a long shot at it “You looking for a job, huh?” he asked “well, I would be willing ot spend a decent amount of credits in a Corellian smuggler… I have some business I need to fix outside but, unfortunately, I am not allowed to leave just yet, and I do want to complete my training… And I am not sure you will find an offer better than mine in this planet, ma´am… These Jedi are pretty stuck-up.”

“Well because I haven´t had any in a good amount of time and I am nostalgic, reminds me of home.”

Kala considered the kid if he could be called a kid. But in her eyes, considering her age he was was a kid. Apparently, Corellian. She snorted. "Home, huh? And let me guess home would be Corellia. "

She took another smaller sip from her flask, debating whether or not to let the kid have a sip. Yet, before she could debate that, the kid suddenly swiped her flask with the Force.

"What the frack! You think you can just take someone's possessions without their permission. That's mine, kid. Give it back and give it back now!"

Her voice took an edge and a slight very potent edge of the Force demanded with what skill she had in Force persuasion that the kid give her back her flask. She didn't care if it worked or didn't work. Some sprout of the Jedi couldn't just take her flask like that.

“You looking for a job, huh? well, I would be willing to spend a decent amount of credits in a Corellian smuggler… I have some business I need to fix outside but, unfortunately, I am not allowed to leave just yet, and I do want to complete my training… And I am not sure you will find an offer better than mine on this planet, ma´am… These Jedi are pretty stuck-up.”

"And you're telling me a sprout of a Jedi initiate like yourself has credits." She laughed, "And yeah...I know you're an initiate. I recognize the cut of those robes identifies you as an initiate rather than a paddy or a knight or a master. " She sighed. "It's been awhile but this place hasn't changed much since the last time I was here." She grinned. "I was on my way to be a master of the Jedi, you know, But...the Jedi weren't too fond of my type of Jedi-ing. They decided to kick me out. Keep it under your hat, kid, but I am a very powerful Force user."

Kale nodded, he didn´t really hide what his hometown was “You hit the jackpot, girl” he said, even though that woman wasn´t a girl anymore… Specially not compared to him… How old would that one be? He didn´t know but surely she would be in her thirties.

He couldn´t help but chuckle when she basically raged as soon as he took her booze from her hands and took a sip… Wow talk about being possessive.

With that last phrase of her, though, for a moment he felt the urge to give it back. He shook his head and looked at her, raising an eyebrow “Did you…? Did you just try to Jedi mind trick me?” he asked, a little fun in his voice “alright, alright, no need to get all force power-ish here, take it back… It´s a good one, by the way.”

He used the force once again to move the drink back to her hand… And then he had an idea. Well she was a smuggler in a desperate need of credits taking how she was talking. And he would still be stuck there in Dantooine for a while until he was allowed to leave. So maybe he would be able to start working on his purpose before that happened.

She seemed to be versed in the Jedi ways, or at least in how this enclave was organized… Would she have been a student here? That would explain the lightsaber and how the girl actually managed to have a little effect on him while she force persuaded him, he laughed “Well you are right, Jedis don´t usually carry credits… But I, ma´am, am no ordinary Jedi” he explained “In my past days I was an orphan on Corellia… And I mastered the art of thieving quite well, though I am a god card player myself. I have gathered a good amount of credits myself so I could offer you… I dunno… A thousand credits makes the play?” he asked, he was going to reply to that super powerful force user thingy… HE had more or less felt how powerful she was, and unless she was hiding it, which he doubted, she was just gloating “right…” if he wanted her to accept the job it would be better not to make her angry.

Kala snorted. "Corelia is a big planet, kid. You're not the only person who can claim that planet as home."

“Did you…? Did you just try to Jedi mind trick me? alright, alright, no need to get all force power-ish here, take it back… It´s a good one, by the way.”

Kala gave the boy a glare as he gave her back her flask. "From what I know, Jedi don't normally drink. And you're a bit young to be drinking."
She chuckled. "Course...I haven't decided if you're a stuck up  Jedi or not?  Taking my flask doesn't exactly improve that image, kid. My terms were simple, you do not get something for nothing, you know. If you truly had credits, you could have paid me for the drink in the first place. I think you're lying, kid. Maybe not about the orphan bit, Jedi are good at taking in stranded kids and hard on their luck cases. I am a prime example of that."

Kale laughed once again, for some reason he was starting to like that girl, something about how she talked and acted made him want to know her. It certainly was a nice change compared to all the stuck up Jedis he was used to deal with in the Enclave.

Sure, he was the weird one there, the boy raised in the streets who didn´t really had that mysticism around him and just wanted to use the force. Kale was doing his best to take in all those Jedi philosophies but… Not really his thing. The part of helping others though, that one he did get very well.

“Well that´s two things for you… Jedi don’t normally have credits. I happen to, and Jedi don´t usually drink… You just saw I do drink, no matter my age… I think I started drinking when I was fifteen… Back on a pub when I was trying to get hired for a thieving job… You gotta show you are tough in front of those guys, am I right?”

He then sighed and looked on the pockets of his Jedi outfit to reach his wallet. He didn´t know if it was allowed, actually he never saw a rule against it, but supposedly Jedi didn´t need money because they got free stuff when they were off world on a mission… But he felt weird without money, and he had a good amount of it.

He opened his walled to show the girl the money, then took five credits and threw them to her.

“That´s for the sip… Now are you interested or not?”

Kala took the cred-chip and rolled it in her hand.

Kala took another gulp from her flask and contemplated the initiate briefly and looked around. "This is probably not the right place to talk business, kid. Too many nosey types. You poke a big fat lightsaber or even the Force into something you're going have trouble. I had heard rumors that the Peacekeepers always need mercs for some of their affairs with the Jedi. "

She then grinned. "If you don't mind stepping into my ship I am pretty sure we can hammer out terms and whether or not I will take you on as a client, per say."

Well, apparently Kale had gotten he attention of the smuggler, or whatever she was. Honestly though, she did look like a smuggler or at least a merchant who didn´t always trade with legal stuff… Maybe he could even make a deal with her to make his life in the enclave more interesting if she was able to bring him some stuff… But that would be for later business.

He looked around and smiled, she was right to be cautious, and honestly he didn´t want anyone to know what he was about ot ask her so he shrugged and nodded.

“I agree, let´s go inside” he said, and he followed her. Once they were inside the ship he looked around “wow, nice piece of flying junk you got here… No mean offend, it seems nice enough.”

He then sighed “So… down to business?”

"My ship is not junk...."  Kala stated looking a bit offended.

She took a seat in a seat in the main hold and offered a seat to the initaite. She dug down below in a hidden compartment and took out a couple of glasses and a bottle of Corellian Brandy. She grinned as she poured a couple of drinks.

"So...I am all ears...handsome...what sort of business does a Jedi wannabe initiate want me to do for them? I hope it doesn't involve me killing someone. I don't do stuff like that."

Spoiler

I wish it could be longer but seriously...not much I can say...

He smiled a little, of course she would take that comment about her ship like that, she was Corellian after all. honestly, if he had a ship he would´t like anyone to talk bad about it, specially if he had spent some time customizing it.

He sat down when offered to and took the drink, he raised an eyebrow... He didn´t know what kind of feelings or emotions was sensing front hat girl, but his experience int he streets told her she was flirting, it wasn´t normal for someone to just go calling handsome a guy she had met five minutes ago:

- Nah, us Jedi don´t kill, sweetie - he said - what I have in mind might be a little harder. In the past I had some business with the Corellian mob, you know, slavery, drug dealing, great scale robberies, that kind of stuff.. You might have even worked for them.

He placed both his fingers on his lips and looked at her:

- I want information, I am not allowed to leave this planet just yet, but I do want to be a Jedi so I can end that criminal organization as soon as I am a knight... But for now, I could start working on strategy. Easy in, easy out, hear something here and there, bring it back to me and i pay you for information. Sounds like a good deal.

"Just checking...because you don't strike me as a conventional Jedi, kid. Even if you were...asking me to kill someone...I am not a bounty hunter. I am a smuggler and a  hard-headed businesswoman."

Kala shrugged at Kale's mention of the mob. "Perhaps...I did do some spice smuggling here and there, just to keep financially solvent....wouldn't have ended up with the Jedi if it wasn't for spice...." Kala said with a chuckle, "But I wasn't really Jedi material even then and I kept getting lectures...blah...blah...Dark Side....blah...I've been a smuggler for years....do I look like a Dark Sider to you? Bunch of hooey if you ask me.  And ending the Corellia mob isn't really going to do much good, kid. You're young and...naive I see. You pluck out a weed another grows in its place. But...I am not here to debate philosophy. So information...what sort of information?"

She took a sip of her brandy and she said. "I always seal a business deal with a drink....or perhaps with some Pazzak. Won this ship in a match by the way."

"Anyway... I try not to get involved too much with intergalactic criminal elements but of course in my line of work...you have to break a few eggs occasionally."
